Dating safety: date with peace of mind

Your safety comes first. Here's how Minkee protects you, and what you can do to stay safe online and in person.

Feeling unsafe right now?

If you are in danger, call your local emergency number. To report someone on Minkee, open their profile and tap Report — it reaches our safety team fastest. You can also email safety@minkee.app.

Is Minkee safe?

Minkee is built with safety on by default. Every member must be 18 or over, verified profiles are checked against a live selfie by a person on our review team, and your exact location is never shown. Photos sent in chat stay blurred until you choose to view them, and reporting is one tap from any profile or chat. Our safety team reviews every report and can warn, restrict or remove accounts.

Photo verification

Rough location only

Minkee never shares your exact location. It uses your rough area, about 1 km, and others see a rounded distance — "Less than 1 km away" is as close as it gets.

Report and block

From any profile or chat. Blocked people can't see you or message you, and you can review your blocked list any time.

Chat photo blur

Photos people send you stay blurred until you choose to view them.

Harmful message warnings

We ask "Are you sure?" before someone sends something that may be hurtful.

Hidden words

Choose words or phrases you never want to see. Messages and likes containing them are hidden.

Adults only

Minkee is 18+. We confirm age at sign-up and remove anyone we believe is underage.

People who review reports

Reports are reviewed by our safety team, who can warn, restrict or remove accounts.

Online dating safety tips

Online

  • Keep conversations in Minkee until you trust someone. Our safety tools only work here.
  • Never send money, gift cards or financial details — however good the story.
  • Protect personal details: home address, workplace, daily routine.
  • Look for the verified badge, and be wary of anyone who avoids a video call.
  • Report anyone who pressures you, asks for money or seems underage.
  • Have a quick video call before you meet. It's the easiest way to confirm someone is who they say they are.
  • Never share intimate images. If someone threatens to share yours, stop replying, keep the evidence and report them — it isn't your fault.
  • Don't click links or download files from someone you've just met.

In person

  • Meet in a busy public place, and stay in public for the first few dates.
  • Tell a friend where you're going — a date safety plan makes this easy.
  • Arrange your own way there and back.
  • Keep an eye on your drink and your belongings.
  • Trust your gut. It's always fine to leave.
  • Keep your phone charged and stay in control of your own drinking.
  • Check in with your friend afterwards — or tap "I'm home safe" on your date plan.

Romance scam warning signs

  • They profess strong feelings very quickly.
  • They always have a reason not to video call or meet.
  • They want to move to another app straight away.
  • A crisis appears and money, gift cards or crypto would solve it.
  • They talk about an investment opportunity.

If something goes wrong

  • If you're in danger, call your local emergency number first.
  • Report the person on Minkee from their profile or your chat, or email safety@minkee.app.
  • Keep screenshots and messages — they help us and the police.
  • If you've sent money, contact your bank straight away.

Reporting

How to report someone

From a profile

Open their profile, tap the menu, then Report. Choose a reason and add any details. You can block them at the same time.

From a chat

Open the conversation, tap the menu at the top, then Report. Reporting from a chat lets our team see the context.

If you've unmatched or been blocked

Go to Profile › Settings › Help and support and choose Safety, or email safety@minkee.app with as much detail as you can.

What happens next

Our safety team reviews every report. We won't tell the person who reported them. Depending on what happened we may warn, restrict or permanently remove the account, and we cooperate with law enforcement where the law requires it.
