About these terms
Minkee is a dating app for Android, operated by [Company legal name], [registered address] ("Minkee", "we", "us"). These terms apply to the Minkee app, this website and any related service (together, "Minkee"). If you don't agree to them, please don't use Minkee.
When you create an account we record that you've accepted these terms and our privacy policy, and which version you accepted.
Who can use Minkee
To create an account and use Minkee, you must:
- be at least 18 years old;
- be legally able to enter into a binding agreement with us;
- not be prohibited from using Minkee under the laws that apply to you;
- never have been convicted of, or pleaded guilty or no contest to, a sexual offence, a violent offence or an offence involving a child, and not be required to register as a sex offender anywhere;
- not have had a Minkee account removed by us, unless we've given you written permission to come back; and
- use Minkee only for your own personal, non-commercial purposes.
Your account
- You can sign up with an email address and password, or with "Continue with Google". You must confirm your email address before using Minkee.
- You may have only one account. Don't create an account for anyone else, or share or sell your account.
- Give us accurate information, including your real date of birth, and keep it up to date.
- Keep your password and sign-in codes secret. You're responsible for activity on your account unless it happened because of our failure. Tell us straight away at support@minkee.app if you think someone else has accessed it.
Your profile and content
You own your content
Your content — photos, text, prompt answers, messages and anything else you post or send — stays yours. To run Minkee, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display and adapt your content (for example, resizing photos or blurring a preview), only to operate and provide Minkee to you and other members, to keep Minkee safe and to comply with the law. We won't use your photos in advertising or marketing outside the app without asking you first.
This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for: content you sent to other members, which they may still have; content we must keep for safety or legal reasons, as described in our privacy policy; and copies in backups until they're overwritten.
Your responsibilities
- Your photos must clearly show you, and must not show anyone under 18 alone or in a way that breaks our community guidelines.
- You must have the right to post everything you post, and it must not infringe anyone's rights, including copyright and privacy.
- You're responsible for your content and the consequences of sharing it. We don't check content before it's posted, but we may review, restrict or remove it as described below.
Rules of conduct
You agree to follow our community guidelines and not to:
- lie about your identity, age, relationship status or intentions, or impersonate anyone;
- harass, threaten, bully, stalk, intimidate, discriminate against or harm anyone;
- post or send content that is sexually explicit, violent, hateful, defamatory, illegal or that promotes self-harm, or send sexual content to anyone who hasn't clearly asked for it;
- involve anyone under 18 in any way, including in photos, or attempt to contact a minor;
- ask anyone for money, gifts, financial details or investments, or use Minkee for scams, fraud, romance scams, sex work, solicitation, advertising, selling or any commercial purpose;
- share anyone's personal information, location, or private images without their consent;
- record, screenshot or publish other members' content or conversations to shame or harm them;
- use bots, scripts, scrapers or other automated tools; access, collect or attempt to access other members' information through any means other than the app's normal features; or probe, scan or test the security of Minkee;
- interfere with, disrupt, overload, copy, modify, decompile or reverse engineer Minkee, except where the law expressly allows it, or get around any limit, security or safety feature;
- create another account after we've removed one; or
- break any law or help anyone else do any of the above.
Safety and other members
Minkee offers safety tools, optional photo verification and moderation, but:
- We don't run criminal background checks or identity checks on members, and we can't guarantee anyone's identity, age, intentions or behaviour.
- A verified badge only means our review team judged that the person's selfie matched their profile photos at the time. It doesn't mean they're safe, honest or who they say they are in every respect.
- You're solely responsible for your interactions with other members, online and in person. Read our safety tips and use caution, especially before meeting someone for the first time: meet in public, tell someone you trust, and never send money.
If you're ever in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
Safety features
- Date safety plans are stored privately for you. Minkee doesn't automatically send your plan to anyone or alert anyone if you don't check in — you share a plan yourself through your phone's share sheet. Minkee does not contact emergency services.
- Chaperone (wali) mode lets you link another Minkee member as your chaperone and show a "chaperone present" badge to your matches. It's a social signal: your chaperone doesn't get access to your chats and doesn't supervise your conversations.
- Hidden words and harmful-message warnings work on your phone using word lists. They won't catch everything.
These features are there to help, but they don't replace your own judgement or professional help.
Reporting, moderation and enforcement
You can report or block any member from their profile or your chat with them. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team.
If we reasonably believe someone has broken these terms or our guidelines, put anyone at risk, or exposed us or others to legal liability, we may take proportionate action, including reviewing reported content and conversations, removing content, hiding a profile, issuing a warning, removing a verified badge, or suspending or permanently closing the account. In serious cases we may act without notice. Where appropriate and lawful, we'll tell you what we did and why. If you think we got it wrong, you can appeal by emailing support@minkee.app within 6 months; a person who wasn't involved in the original decision will review it.
We may report illegal activity, and we will report child sexual abuse material, to the relevant authorities. See our child safety standards.
Cost of Minkee
Minkee is currently free and has no in-app purchases or subscriptions. If we introduce paid features in the future, they'll be sold through Google Play, Google Play's payment terms and refund policy will apply, and we'll show you the price and any additional terms before you buy. We'll never charge you for something you haven't agreed to pay for.
Our rights in Minkee
Minkee — including the app, the website, our name, logo, design and software — belongs to us and our licensors. Subject to these terms, we give you a personal, worldwide, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to download and use the app on Android devices you own or control, only for its intended purpose. This licence ends if your account ends.
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without any obligation to you.
Third-party services
Minkee works with services provided by others, such as Google sign-in, Google Play and your phone's location and geocoding services. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and we're not responsible for them. Links to other websites are provided for convenience only.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Profile › Settings › Account › Delete account, or by requesting deletion on the web. If you just need a break, you can snooze your profile instead. What we delete and what we keep is explained on the delete account page.
We may suspend or close your account as described in moderation and enforcement, or if we stop providing Minkee — in which case we'll give you reasonable notice where we can. Sections of these terms that by their nature should continue (such as content licences for retained content, disclaimers, liability, indemnity and disputes) continue after your account ends.
Disclaimers
We work hard to keep Minkee running well, but to the extent the law allows, we provide Minkee "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement. We don't promise that you'll find a match or a relationship, that Minkee will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that information other members provide is accurate. We may change, add or remove features; we'll give you reasonable notice of changes that significantly affect you where we can.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Minkee and our directors, employees and partners won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill or opportunities, arising from your use of Minkee or the conduct of any member, on or off Minkee. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for all claims relating to Minkee is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and 100 US dollars.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that can't be limited or excluded by law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. If you're a consumer, you keep all the rights your local consumer law gives you; in the EEA and UK, we're responsible for foreseeable loss and damage caused by our breach of these terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill.
Indemnity
To the extent the law allows, you agree to compensate us for reasonable losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from claims by third parties caused by your content, your breach of these terms or your conduct towards other members. This doesn't apply to the extent the loss was caused by us.
Disputes and governing law
If you have a concern, please contact us first at support@minkee.app — most issues can be resolved quickly and informally. These terms are governed by the laws of [governing jurisdiction], and disputes will be heard by its courts. If you're a consumer, this doesn't take away the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, or your right to bring a claim in your local courts.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when Minkee or the law changes. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, unless it's needed sooner for legal or safety reasons. If you don't agree to the updated terms, you can delete your account before they take effect. If you keep using Minkee after that, the updated terms apply.
General
- These terms, our community guidelines and any terms we show you for a specific feature are the whole agreement between you and us about Minkee. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your information.
- If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest stays in effect.
- If we don't enforce a right straight away, we haven't given it up.
- You can't transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours to a company that takes over Minkee, as long as your rights aren't reduced.
- We're not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
